The Welsh story

Bran was a giant, king of the Island of the Mighty, too large for any house to hold him. When his host had no ship, he lay across the river so his army could cross his body, saying that he who is chief should be a bridge. Mortally wounded in Ireland, he ordered his own head cut off; it talked and feasted with his companions for eighty-seven years before being buried at the White Hill to guard Britain.
