The Welsh story

A mist fell on Dyfed and when it lifted every person and animal was gone, leaving Manawydan, Rhiannon, Pryderi and Cigfa alone in an emptied country. They lived by hunting and by trade for years, suspended, while the enchantment held. It was revenge — Llwyd ap Cil Coed avenging the humiliation of Gwawl, whom Rhiannon's household had once beaten in a bag — and it broke only when Manawydan stopped struggling and started bargaining.
